Alphapointe, the region’s sole provider of comprehensive services for the blind and visually impaired, offers two unique summer camp options for middle and high school students with vision loss: Alphapointe Adventure Camp and Alphapointe Technology Camp. Each of these experiences help visually impaired youth overcome challenges, foster self-sufficiency, and prepare for future success in a sighted world.
Alphapointe Adventure Camp, a week-long camp for students ages 11-19, provides a true summer camp experience for blind and visually impaired youth. Campers challenge themselves daily with climbing walls, zip lines, horseback riding, and more, all while building relationships with other individuals who possess firsthand expertise navigating their own journeys with vision loss. Overnight and day-camp options are available.
Alphapointe Technology Camp is a 5-day, STEM-based day camp for youth ages 12-18 designed to spark kids’ interest in tech and show them that, through adaptive technology, people who are blind or visually impaired can excel in STEM fields. Past campers have built websites, assembled and programmed robots, and learned computer programming.
By working with vision loss experts, trained volunteers, and specialized counselors, campers at Alphapointe Adventure Camp and Alphapointe Technology Camp get to experience the same activities that their sighted peers do … but in the safety of trained experts and company of others who understand life the way they do.
