Volunteers and Interns

All hands matter as we work to provide camping opportunities to over 3500 children from our community.  Volunteers are essential to the future success of the camps in our network.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Dear Friends,

Amidst this continuing challenge, Camps for Kids remains committed, more than ever, to our mission:  to see that every Kansas City area special needs and underprivileged child can experience the joy and discovery of summer camp.

The COVID-19 pandemic presents serious challenges for all of our network camps in 2020.   But this reaffirms our belief about what’s important: family, friends, health, and the support of our community for those most in need.

Most of our 22 network camps intend to proceed with their summer camps in 2020, continuing to make the unique experience of summer camp available to the special needs and underprivileged communities that we have served since 1981.  Camp directors and staff are all working proactively to adapt to the new realities and meet the needs of the 3,500 children they serve.  No surprise here: for many this will involve delayed start dates and new logistical issues for volunteers and medical staff.

As a result, the need for your continued  support is as great as ever. Please call or email the camp directly to determine their volunteer needs.

Thank you for your continued support.

Camps For Kids

Here is a listing of camps:

“The Camp you folks run is by far the best thing that I have seen, heard of, or been a part of. I am so glad that I went. Everything was done so well, the kids seemed to know that they were not so different. It has made a huge impact on my life, I look forward to coming back next year. Thank you for giving these wonderful kids and their families a hope for a better tomorrow.” – a volunteer

“As we expected camp has been WONDERFUL. The genuine smile on (my daughter’s) face in the pictures I took at drop off and the ones the counselors are sending me are testament to what an amazing thing you are doing. Thank you so very, very much! ”

“I can see what other kids have gone through and how they survived. It helps me get through & conquer. We are all survivors. That’s a gift.”

“When I'm at camp, I feel like a normal kid. Some kids don't get to go outside because our parents are just working too much and too hard. At home, I'm just watching movies all day. I don't want to get too old to come to Wildwood.”

“Without the support of Camps for Kids and the matching fund, CHD Families would be unable to provide a free medically supervised summer camp for kids with Congenital Heart Defects.”

“I look back on the struggle of my childhood and one of the most important and best childhood memories I have include the time spent at camp with the amazing men and women who treated me like I was normal despite my struggle”
