Camp Hope & Camp SIBsational
KyMel’s mission is to provide connecting experiences for kids facing cancer. We have two flagship camp programs: Camp Hope and Camp SIBsational.
Camp Hope has been serving kids and teens with cancer since 1983. It is held the third week of June at Camp Aldrich near Claflin, KS. Any child ages 5-17 who have or have had cancer are eligible to attend. There is also a Camper for a Day option for any child age 4-17 who is not able to attend the entire week. Camp Hope has an on-site 24/7 medical team including physicians, nurses, pharmacists and mental health specialists. Typical activities include swimming, bowling, miniature golf, a visit to the water park, arts and crafts, talent show, fishing and more!
Camp SIBsational was established in 2019 in order to meet the unique needs of the siblings of kids with cancer. It is typically held the last week of July at Camp Wood near Emporia, KS. Any child or teen ages 5-17 with a sibling who has/had cancer is eligible to attend. Typical activities include horseback riding, ropes course, boating, swimming, arts and crafts, archery and more!
These camps give youth affected by cancer a place they can go to interact with peers who truly understand what they are going through. Campers who attend show increased resilience, improved self-confidence, and a deeper sense of friendship. They leave with a sense of hope and a recognition that they are not alone in their journey. It is truly a life-changing experience. As one former camper stated, “Camp saved my life”.
Both week-long camps are provided free of charge to all families. KyMel is 100% volunteer-run.
