Midnight Farm Summer Camp

Midnight Farm Summer Camp

Day Camp | Specialty Camp

Summer Camps at CLO’s Midnight Farm provide enriching opportunities for children with special needs to experience the joys of camp. All sessions are held at CLO’s Midnight Farm, a 40-acre farm located in rural Douglas County, Kansas. We currently offer two types of summer camps. In 2016 Midnight Farm is hosting seven summer camps– three Special Needs camps and four horsemanship camps:

Special Needs Camps: Special Needs Camps provide riders with autism spectrum disorders specialized riding instruction with PATH certified riding instructors. In addition to horseback riding, activities include; crafts, sing-alongs, and interaction with farm animals in our petting paddocks. Also included are wagon rides, scavenger hunts, turtle races, and other fun events. Our summer camps provide an outdoor experience for youth with special needs and their typical peers to grow their love for nature, as well as build skills like choice making, direction following, and both fine and gross motor skill development.

Horsemanship Camps: The Horsemanship Camps are offered at three different levels based on a riders’ experience: beginner, junior and advanced. All camps include daily riding lessons, crafts, games and a horse show on the last day where campers can show off their newly acquired skills.

CLO specializes in serving persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our staff is specially trained to manage challenging behavior, learning, and health needs. Camp counselors and other staff members use key teaching principles, including modeling, supporting the child in practicing their skills with the use of appropriate prompt sequences and reinforcement. Camp counselors place an emphasis on relationship development and incorporate picture schedules for the children so that they know what activities are planned and when they will occur.
